Summer is heating up here! I’m sure I’m not alone in my battle to stay cool. It makes me crave cold treats. I actually prefer frozen yogurt to ice cream most of the time. No matter which one I choose, I have been looking for healthier alternatives that fulfill my craving.
Yonanas has come up with a great solution! Now I can stop my summer sweets craving in its tracks with an all-natural alternative!

Turn fruit into a healthy frozen treat in minutes with Yonanas!
Yonanas is a small machine that turns frozen fruit into a dessert that looks and tastes like soft-serve ice cream! I didn’t need any milk, cream, or sugar! It’s all about the frozen fruit! I started with frozen bananas and the possibilities are endless!

It was so easy to use this fun kitchen gadget. The prep work was minimal. All I had to do was freeze some bananas. Over-ripe bananas actually work best! The riper the banana, the sweeter the yonanas!

Yonanas quick tip: peel your bananas before you freeze them!
A few months ago I decided to freeze a banana. I actually don’t remember why now but I was freezing one. I think I wanted to offer it to W when he was teething. Anyway, I just tossed it in the freezer, peel and all. A few hours later, I had a nice frozen banana. After a few minutes of trying to peel it, I gave up and threw it away. There was no way that peel was coming off!
So, I don’t recommend freezing bananas with the peel on!

Once I had frozen my bananas for 24 hours, I was ready to make some Yonanas. I love strawberries so I decided to try a strawberry-banana version!
Once I turned the Yonanas machine on, I was ready to go! All I had to do was place the frozen banana in the chute to get started. I found that breaking the bananas in half worked best. Then I pushed the banana down into the chute using the plunger. After that, I repeated the same process with my extra ingredients.
In my case, it was frozen strawberries that I had thawed slightly but you can use other fruits, nuts, and even chocolate!

The instruction manual comes with some great troubleshooting tips if you’re having consistency issues. Mine was a bit thick but it was only my first try and I have gotten better at it! If you have any trouble with getting yonanas to come out of the machine, it’s important to make sure you’re using at least 2 full bananas with your extra ingredients.
I actually alternated bananas and strawberries to get the mix in the photos.

J was more than willing to try yonanas! He’s also a big frozen yogurt fan like I am. It got his stamp of approval. I couldn’t chase W down to try it yet. He is always on the go these days. He rarely wants to stop to eat! He loves bananas though so I’m anxious for him to try it! Grambo and I both approved of my strawberry-banana mix!
I was browsing the recipes on the Yonanas website and am really excited to start thinking out of the box! There seems to be a recipe for every type of person! I think that the Pear Raspberry Yonanas recipe sounds very interesting and I was surprised to see another version of the recipe called Pear Raspberry Chardonnay Yonanas. Yes, it calls for frozen cubes of Chardonnay! I would never have even come up with that!
There are also recipes that don’t use bananas. If you don’t use bananas, you will get more of a sorbet texture. I really want to try making watermelon sorbet using it because watermelon just screams summer to me!

One of my favorite features of the Yonanas banana ice cream maker is that it is easy to clean! All I had to do was take the chute assembly off of the base of the machine. I separated the individual parts and made sure there weren’t any leftover yonanas hiding out inside. Then I did a quick rinse and later Grambo put them in the dishwasher on the top shelf.
Yonanas is also easy to clean and dishwasher-safe!
This machine is becoming a must-have in our kitchen as we continue towards the heart of the summer. I don’t buy a lot of ice cream and I don’t need to be spending money at the frozen yogurt place every day. So Yonanas is a great solution for me and my entire family! I find it easier to use than our blender. It’s definitely easier to clean! I like easy!
Yonanas is sold in major retailers nationwide for $49.99.
