The Ups and Downs of Womanhood aka Menopause
Calm down. It’s okay. You’re not about to read the tale of early onset menopause. Although I do feel more prepared because of my living situation. I have lived with my mother most of my life. There were about 2 years when I didn’t live with her. But now she is living with us again. So we have shared a lot of experiences. A few years ago, I saw her go through the ups and downs of menopause.
My mom is the face of menopause for me. September is Menopause Awareness month and it really got me thinking about my mom’s experience.

I watched her go through menopause as part of the aging process really gave me some insight into the future. I can remember what puberty was like. It was like I didn’t know my body anymore. It took a lot of getting used to before I felt comfortable in my skin again. Menopause seemed to be extremely similar.
My mom was determined to go through it all naturally. She didn’t use any hormones and researched natural ways to help manage the symptoms like the hot flashes. It wasn’t always easy but she made it through! There were definitely some changes in her body but she has learned how to feel comfortable in her body again. I hope to go through the process in the same way.
One thing she would have benefited from was a way to help manage those intense hot flashes. When I learned about the Poise products designed for women over 40, we were interested. Although I’m still 8 years away from 40, I can remember those hot flashes that Grambo dealt with.

Poise Fab Five
The Poise line features five products designed to help with the symptoms of menopause, including:
- Poise Roll-On Cooling Gel

How do you plan to deal with the symptoms and change of menopause?

I am only 5 years away from 40, so I am going to beat you there. I think I have already dealt with a hot flash or two. Not fun. Good for your mom for trying to deal with it naturally!

I went to the twitter party for this (won myself $50 too!) and, it totally inspired me to… write a blog post, of course! Mine is not nearly as nice as yours. I swore… a lot. I don’t like this early age perimenopause stuff Sam I am, I don’t Like It, It Should Be Banned…
(that was a catchy name, should have been my title!)

The hot flashes are something I’m not looking forward to at all. I can see my turning the thermostat down to 45 degrees and freezing my family out when my time comes.
