Summer Fluffin’ Review: MiniMaestro Cloth Diapers

Share:

MiniMaestro Cloth Diapers was started when Sophie Gratton, a mother of two, was looking to save money and make a difference in the family budget.  She got the idea of switching from using disposable diapers to cloth diapers. She broke out her sewing machine and got to work on perfecting a great diaper design and after tweaks and adjustments, the MiniMaestro pocket diaper was born! And I am extremely glad that is was because I cannot wait to tell you about my great experience with this diaper!MiniMaestro offers pocket diapers that are extremely trim fitting and come in some great color combinations. Yes, I get caught up in great colors! Isn’t that one of the perks of using cloth? I mean, how many people have a chocolate mint diaper? Yes, I was lucky enough to get to try a MiniMaestro in the chocolate/mint combination and it’s wonderful! The outer is a great dark chocolate brown and the inner is a light mint green. It’s so original and I must say that I love diapers with contrasting color combinations!

MiniMaestro pocket diaper

I received a medium MiniMaestro pocket with one insert. Based on W’s size, I chose the size medium MiniMaestro pocket because it is designed to fit from approximately 14 – 25 pounds which is perfect based on W’s current weight. MiniMaestro only offers sized diapers because babies shapes and sizes vary greatly. Sophie believes that the design and multi-sizes limits the bulk around the waist, the crotch, and the overall thickness of the diaper. I have to agree with her! One thing I like about sized diapers is that the fit is generally more trim than one size diapers.

Besides the color combination, I also like the design of the MiniMaestro pocket. The aplix closures feel extremely sturdy and high quality. As I have mentioned on other diapers, I prefer the design of the aplix tabs on the MiniMaestro diaper because they are sewn on to the fabric. The MiniMaestro design is slightly different from others with the aplix sewn on to dedicated fabric tabs. It is a design feature that has been working extremely well. The tabs have not curled at all, W has not been able to undo them, and the laundry tab side has been extremely effective in the wash! The tabs are also longer than the ones on most of my diapers and I really think that makes a difference!

Another great design feature is the pocket opening. It is larger than the openings on many of my pocket diapers and it is so easy to fit the insert in to the pocket! The insert is also much easier to handle than the typical floppy microfiber insert. The MiniMaestro insert is bamboo! The inserts are made of a combination of synthetic and natural fibers between two (2) bamboo fleece layers. This means that it takes a few more washes to reach maximum absorbency but once you’re there, it’s amazing! I am considering ordering some of these inserts to use in some of my other diapers and I may try it in combination with some others as a night diaper solution.

As I mentioned, the pocket opening is extremely wide and has elastic on both sides so it doesn’t just gape open despite its generous size. It’s definitely a design feature I didn’t realize I appreciated until I used this diaper!

With the extra long tabs and wide front band, I am able to get an amazing fit on W’s belly and chunky thighs. This diaper has never left a mark on his skin either! I appreciate the wider front band because it gives me room to make minor adjustments to the fit (or as you can see in the photo – crooked adjustments!) and plus there is room for W to grow in this diaper! The tabs aren’t at the edge of the band so I have a feeling we will get a lot of use out of this diaper.

MiniMaestro pocket cloth diaper fit around legs

Here is a photo of the fit on W’s thigh. There is absolutely no gaping at all! The elastic fits right along his skin to prevent any leaks and we haven’t had any. As I type this, he is napping in the MiniMaestro diaper so I will let you know what happens! I have a feeling I won’t find any wet clothes which is a great feeling as a mom! The MiniMaestro pocket features a micro fleece inner to wick away moisture from the baby’s skin and it does a good job. Although I hadn’t considered it until now, I’m beginning to think that I should definitely try this diaper out at night. I’m wondering what would happen with the bamboo MiniMaestro insert and an AFFF (Artsy Fartsy Foo Foo) hemp insert! I would definitely have plenty of absorbency and it would still be on the trim side. Although I may need to add in some sort of microfiber layer so I have something that absorbs quickly. I guess I will stop brainstorming now and get on with it! I do plan on trying this now and will keep you updated!

MiniMaestro pocket cloth diaper fit on back

If you noticed in the first photo of W wearing this diaper, it does have a lower rise and since it is not adjustable as a one size diaper would be, it will only get lower. Unlike some other diapers with a lower rise, I was not at all concerned about the rise because in the back there is no gaping even when W is leaning way over as he works on sitting up. This diaper fits well all the way around from front to back.

MiniMaestro pocket cloth diaper trim fit

It’s also a very trim fitting diaper. As I mentioned before, Sophie designed the MiniMaestro diapers with the goal of being a more trim-fitting diaper and she has accomplished her goal! W can wear it under all of his clothes, even some of the pieces that are getting a bit small on him.

Overall, I would have to say that I wish I had more of these diapers in our stash. They fit my son extremely well and I would love to see how the large size fits him when he is big enough for it. I would also love to see how an extra small might work with younger babies. Based on the sizing chart, the extra small fits from approximately 6 – 12 pounds. This could be a great newborn diaper! I should also mention that MiniMaestro also offers a medium slim size. The diaper we reviewed is the medium but if you have a skinnier baby you may want to try this unique size. I recommend that you try the MiniMaestro pocket diaper if you have the opportunity and I will probably be picking up a few more MiniMaestro inserts to use in some of my other pockets!
