Spring Break Staycation

Spring Break is almost over here and it has been a wonderful week with my little man. We kicked it off with an amazing Spring Break staycation at the DoubleTree by Hilton in the Houston Galleria. I really don’t give the staycation enough credit. It’s an amazing and affordable way to take a quick break from the day-to-day. It’s a great way to make family memories and have affordable family fun.

Every staycation we’ve ever gone on has been great. We’ve explored San Antonio and Galveston, but haven’t done much exploring around Houston lately. So it was great to pile in the car and make the drive over to the Galleria area.

Oh and yes, that photo highlights one of our favorite things about staying at a DoubleTree — The Cookie.

I figured an overnight to the DoubleTree Galleria would be a fun little adventure for J, W, and I. Then I started packing and started to get overwhelmed. How much does a person have to pack to spend the night somewhere? Well, with a toddler it felt like a lot. But I wanted to make sure that we had plenty to take care of him and keep him entertained.

Keeping him entertained was my biggest concern. Why?

Because this is what happens the moment we walk into a hotel room.

His first stop was the phone. His second stop was the game controller attached to the television where he quickly ordered a pay-per-view movie. This was my second experience with great customer service after having an easy check-in when we arrived. A quick phone call and I was assured that the movie would be removed from our charges. And then we unplugged the game controllers from the two televisions in the room.

Yes, two televisions. Because the DoubleTree Houston Galleria is an all-suites hotel. When I learned that, I was sold. Over the past two years I’ve learned that suites as the way to go when travelling with the family. Having even a partial kitchen with a mini fridge makes travel so much easier with little ones.

But DoubleTree has outdone themselves with this property by giving me a full kitchen. Yes, I had a full-sized refrigerator, an oven, and even a dishwasher. Now that is the way to travel with kids!

So in addition to the kitchen, there was a living room area with dining table and great computer desk. There was also a pull out sleeper couch and a television. Plenty of room for W to spread out all of the toys he brought. J and I still had room to settle in and relax too. The living space had a balcony with a nice few of the Galleria area as well. It was fun to wake up the next morning to a stormy day and be able to watch the rain from 19 floors up!

And when bed time rolled around, we were able to take full advantage of the spacious bathroom and bedroom. Plenty of pillows on both beds made me a happy camper. I hate when there aren’t enough pillows to go around! There was also the second television in case we had wanted to relax in bed before going to sleep.

J even got a middle of the night hankering (yes, a hankering) to try out the shower. So he broke out the Evelyn & Crabtree bath products and when to town while W and I slept. He reported that it was a great shower too!

We enjoyed breakfast the next morning before heading home. With a clean and spacious room, great hospital staff and service, it was definitely a fun night together in the Houston Galleria. It was a great change of pace for my family and something we definitely need to do every once in a while.

If you’re looking to spend some time in the Galleria, definitely check out the DoubleTree because it’s conveniently located and makes life just a bit easier with all of the amenities. I would love to go back again this summer and enj0y what looked like a fabulous pool area!

But even without the pool we had a great family Spring Break staycation that got our Spring Break off to a fabulous start!

You can find a Doubletree for your next trip so you can enjoy a delicious warm cookie welcome and all of the great amenities of a property near you! Don’t underestimate the power of a staycation!

What are your plans for Spring Break?
