Share the Joy this Holiday Season
As I’ve mentioned more than a few times, there is a family at my mom’s church that we have been reaching out to over the past few months. Dad is stationed overseas and Mom (R) and daughter (S) are here handling some health issues that no little girl should have to battle at such a young age. As a mom, I feel for them. I cannot imagine how challenging the holidays might be so my family wanted to share the joy with them throughout the season!
We have been sharing a variety of gift baskets with R and since the holidays are all about tasty goodies (at least in my world), we wanted to put together a gift that would give R the opportunity to make or bake something with S. I love creating memories in the kitchen with W even if they are all pretty messy. I wouldn’t trade them for the world.
World Market is my go to place when I want to put together a unique gift basket. They have everything you need and they’ll even package it up for you!
Shopping for Great Gift Ideas
The great thing about World Market when you’re working on putting together a gift basket is that they offer a huge variety of items. There is something that fits every price range and size range. I found some wonderful stocking stuffers (from sentimental to humorous) that also work great as filler for baskets.
But I was on the hunt for a baking or cooking project. I was on the hunt for inspiration. And then it hit!
The adorable penguin and gingerbread shaped syrup bottles inspired me to create a Christmas Morning Breakfast Gift Basket! What a great way to make a new memory and perhaps start a new tradition!
Christmas Breakfast Gift Basket
As soon as I spotted the pancake syrup, I discovered that World Market also had Red Velvet Pancake Mix. Add in an apron and a new spatula and we had enough for one gift basket. One thing I love about this basket idea is that it could easily be expanded for larger families by adding more boxes of mix and more syrup. It could also be a bigger basket by including more kitchen supplies.
I was pretty proud of coming up with a unique idea. It’s one that may become tradition in our home as well! J had to try some of these red velvet pancakes since he is the pancake king in our house. We had to know if they were worthy of making for a breakfast get together at my mom’s church.
Another way I’m trying to teach W to give back to others is through service. So helping prepare a pancake breakfast for those who are in need is one way to model helping others.
Holiday Traditions of Giving with Share the Joy
While holiday shopping is fun and watching W opening gifts is one of my favorite things, giving to others is really what this season is about. And I want him to grow up knowing what is important. So starting holiday traditions such as serving meals and making gift baskets for others is high on my priority list.
Plus being able to find all of these great goodies to wrap up and pass along is a great way to teach W about the joy of giving. Yes, we found a little something for everyone in the family. So after they make themselves a delicious pancake breakfast, the can enjoy opening gifts and celebrating together with all of their new gifts. World Market definitely came through with great gift ideas. From sentimental to funny, I think we got everything covered!
