For the past few weeks, I have been exploring my new neighborhood by bike. I’ve done a lot of walking but I wanted there is still a lot of it that I had yet to explore! My neighborhood is actually a small city so it’s larger than a normal subdivision. I have done a lot of exploring in the northern part of the neighborhood but not the south. So I headed out to check it out!
Setting out on Neighborhood Adventures with Schwinn
One thing I love about my neighborhood is that it is an older neighborhood. There are mature trees and landscaping. After living in brand new homes for the past 10 years, the trees and shade are welcome changes. There are some absolutely gorgeous blooms right now! It makes getting out in the heat worth it.
I love coming home to my house at the end of each ride. When we first went to see the house, it had been just a few months since my sister had passed away. We were looking for a home and a neighborhood where W could grow up in. We were looking for a fresh start. When we stepped inside, we knew we were home.
My adventures around the neighborhood were put on hold when we had a few days of intense rain storms. The wind and rain were enough to knock down the dead tree in our neighbors yard. The crack the tree made when it fell and hit another tree was so loud the house seemed to shake a bit!
The tree damaged our gas meter and we had to evacuate for about an hour. The firefighters could hear the gas hissing out of the open line and the smell was suffocating. It was one of those moments when I was reminded just how precious life is and what is really important.
A few days later, I was back out on the bike! I am trying to set a good example for my son by modeling physical activity. We have been going on walks almost every day but I like having the option to ride my bike for a change of pace. I have been struggling to be as active as I was before I got pregnant. Finding time is much more challenging!
I really am lucky to live in a neighborhood that has so many wonderful amenities. It has been wonderful to explore them on my bike because I can ride much further than I can walk with W. I look forward to the years we have in the future. I cannot wait until W is big enough to ride with me.
But I know that I cannot wait for those years. I must make the most of every single day I have with my son. We have to get outside and make those memories!
I did take one journey out of my neighborhood…
Yes, I headed out on my bike for the perfect treat for a hot summer day! I love frozen yogurt! The self-service frozen yogurts are like heaven to me! I love being able to choose my own flavors and add my own toppings. There is one little problem for me though.
I always get way too much frozen yogurt!
This trip I got a mix of Thin Mint Cookie and Cake Batter! I really only needed to get the Thin Mint Cookie flavor but I had never had it before so I threw in some Cake Batter because it’s my favorite flavor. A few cherries and chocolate chips and I had way too much frozen yogurt! I have many more adventures planned for the summer. W will be joining me on some of them as soon as we get a bike trailer for him. I think he will love watching his world fly by with the wind in his face. We will be enjoying the ride of life just as Schwinn believes we should!
If we’ve learned anything from more than a century of building bikes, it’s that some things never get old. From that first taste of freedom, when the training wheels come off, to the wonder of a parent letting go, and all of the ups and downs in between, magical moments in life happen on a Schwinn. Life’s a ride. Enjoy it on a Schwinn.
Have you been on any neighborhood adventures recently? Where would you go on your bike if you had a free afternoon?
