As you know, we recently moved into a new home and s0 my thoughts have been on all things home lately! With a new kitchen came a renewed desire to cook and bake for my family. I am also a huge fan of finding ways to cook healthier for my family. Recently I have come to realize that the way in which you prepare the food can effect how healthy it is just as the ingredients you use can. Since that realization, I have been on the hunt for cookware, bakeware, and kitchen appliances that can help me prepare my food in ways that are more healthy!
The Xtrema Healthy Cookware line by Ceramcor is an option for those who are looking for a healthier way to prepare food! Xtrema’s healthy ceramic cookware offers a safe, eco-friendly, 100% green alternative to traditional cookware. It will never trap food, bacteria, odors, or tastes. It doesn’t need to be “seasoned” like cast iron cookware and doesn’t scratch like aluminum cookware! Xtrema cookware is durable, scratch-proof, attractive, eco-friendly and safe! That makes it perfect for my family!
I was thrilled to have the opportunity to try the 4 Quart Covered Ceramic Soup Pot from Xtrema. Now I’m not a huge soup maker (although I would love to perfect my Nana’s vegetable soup recipe) but I do make a lot of chili! I will admit that sometimes I use a chili kit but sometimes I go for it and season on my own. The arrival of our new Xtrema Ceramic Soup Pot was the perfect excuse to make up a big batch of chili!
I decided I wanted to use a chili recipe from one of my favorite cookbooks that features healthier recipes instead of using a chili kit. Here is the recipe I adapted from the cookbook and used for batch of chili:
What you need:
1 lb extra-lean ground beef
2 cans kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 can diced tomatoes, undrained
1 can tomato paste
2 cups cold water
2 tsp chili powder (this actually ends up being chili powder to taste)
garlic salt (to taste)
What you do:
- In a 4 quart nonstick saucepan or Dutch oven, cook ground beef over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until brown and drain.
- Stir in remaining ingredients and heat to boiling.
- Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thoroughly heated.
With this recipe, I add chili powder to taste and then I add a bit of garlic salt to bring out the chili powder a bit. I have never seen it in a recipe, it’s just one of my little tricks! I also simmer longer than 5 to 7 minutes. I find that the longer I simmer, the better it tastes!
The Xtrema Soup Pot worked incredibly well for this recipe! I was amazed when I finished browning the ground beef and went to drain it. I am used to having a good amount of grease to drain out and there was barely a drop with the Xtrema Soup Pot! I was pleasantly surprised! I enjoyed my entire cooking experience with this pot. One thing that was a bit different for me was the fact that the directions said I should make sure the burner was heated before placing the pot on the stove. I did that and everything went very smoothly!
I love the look of the Xtrema 4 Quart Covered Ceramic Soup Pot too! It looks like it is extremely heavy-duty and I expected it to weight a lot but it is very light and easy to move around the kitchen. I also like how the top of the pot is smaller than the bottom of the pot. This prevented my spatula and spoons from falling into the chili!
Overall, I loved my experience with my new piece of Xtrema cookware and I hope to have the opportunity to try other pieces as well! In fact, I think I would trade in all of my current cookware if I could stock my kitchen with the Xtrema ceramic cookware. Besides the look and how easy it is to care for this pot, I love that it can go from the stove to the oven as well! It really does offer a number of great features.
