As the Win Your Gifts Holiday Hop continues here at Formula Mom, I’m hearing from a lot of you about the Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer. It sounds like you are as excited as I am about this great product. I will admit that when I was pregnant with W, I debated on which thermometer to register for and didn’t end up getting anything until after he was born. We picked up a rectal thermometer and I will admit that it is still in the packaging! I don’t think I’m brave enough to go there. We’ve also been very lucky because W has been extremely healthy so far.

Still, since W has only had 2 colds since he was born there was never a huge need so I had put it off.

Exergen Temporal Thermometer Recently I had the opportunity to finally try the Exergen Temporal Scanner and I went crazy taking everyone’s temperature! It really is as easy as it looks. I will admit that I started without reading the directions and couldn’t get it to work accurately, but once I read the directions there was not a problem at all! Just another one of those times when I should listen to the things I teach to my students! Always read the directions first! They were short and sweet anyway and the Exergen Temporal Scanner is extremely easy to use.

I like the Exergen Temporal Scanner because it is so easy to use and I can even get a temperature when W is doing duty as a human rolling pin. After doing some research to learn a bit more about temporal artery thermometers, I learned a lot more and decided I liked it even more!

I learned that measurement of the blood temperature in a major artery accurately reflects true body temperature. The Exergen Temporal Scanner is designed to measure the temperature of the skin surface over the temporal artery which is a major artery of the head. It also offers constant blood flow and is the only such artery positioned close enough to the skin surface to provide access needed to take an accurate measurement. It is easy to use because it is ideally located at the front portion of the forehead. If I wasn’t sold before I definitely was after reading more about it.

Moving the thermometer gently across W’s forehead is much easier than trying to get his temperature under his arm and I have not even dared to try taking a rectal temperature. So, the Exergen Temporal Scanner has been a lifesaver for us and I’m glad to have one in my home! Once W starts going to preschool and then elementary school, I’m sure it will get a lot of use!
