Positive Sprouts: Raising Healthy Kids

Kids are my passion. I adore my own son and I work with kids every day at work. They are truly my passion. While I spend most of my time molding young minds as a special education teacher, raising healthy kids is always on my mind. Boys & Girls Club of America and Amway have paired up to offer a collection of initiatives to promote healthy eating and lifestyles when it comes to kids. The Positive Sprouts program is all about teaching kids to eat well!

I want to raise W to be an active and healthy young man. I know it starts from a young age and we get him out with us as often as we can. Although he’s not able to run or ride his bike with us yet, we can modeled good habits by taking him on walks with us and to the gym.

Puberty was not kind to me. Combined with unhealthy eating habits, I was overweight for many years. It’s something I would like to avoid with W. I love that Amway and Boys & Girls Club are working to educate children!

Educating Kids

Amway and Boys & Girls Club are working hard to educate the Club members through three initiatives:

  • POSITIVE SPROUTS® Sustainability Grants - Ten Boys & Girls Clubs that previously received Amway community gardens will be provided with $30,000 in Sustainability Grants. The funds from Amway are to assist the Clubs in maintaining their garden while improving nutrition for Club members. You can learn more here.
  • Garden In A Box Kits - 150 Garden in a Box kits will be donated by Amway to Boys & Girls Clubs who showed interest and need for a community gardening program. A variety of fruit and vegetable seeds and supplies are included in the kit. It’s everything Clubs need to get started!
  • POSITIVE SPROUTS® Curriculum - 4,000 Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide will receive deliveries of the Positive Sprouts healthy food curriculum from Amway. This will ensure that the Clubs have access to materials that help promote healthy eating habits.

As a mom and a teacher, I love seeing partnerships like these pop up. Knowing that companies and organizations are out there watching out for the health of our nation’s children touches my heart!

Comments

  1. I had my daughter “working” in the garden last year. It was her job to pick the red cherry tomatoes on the vines and NOT feed them to the dogs! Little things like that got her more excited about eating veggies.
