LeapFrog Touch Magic Rockin’ Guitar
Confession time. Wait, it’s always confession time, isn’t it? Well, here’s another one. Ever since I found out I was having a boy, I have been on the hunt for clothing and other baby things that have to do with guitars and rock ‘n roll. So much of the boy stuff is all about puppy dogs and sports. I wanted to be a rebel! So when we had the opportunity to try the LeapFrog Touch Magic Rockin’ Guitar, I was thrilled.
J plays the guitar. He was in a heavy metal band in high school and college. W loves sitting with him while he plays the guitar. So I thought it would be fun to have a guitar of his own! I happen to like that it also helps W learn but don’t tell him that!
As a teacher I have been a fan of LeapFrog for years. I’ve used their products in my classroom and now in my home! Anything that can make learning fun is a winner in my book! So I was ready! Bring on the new guitar! My little rockstar was ready too!
Pop of Color
First of all, when the guitar arrived on our doorstep and I pulled it out of the box, W was ecstatic. He did his little happy dance. I should try to catch it on video sometime. It’s pretty cute. Of course, I’m slightly biased but it’s still cute! I could not open the box fast enough.
My first impression was good as well. I adore the bright primary colors! I’m all about bright colors and the design on the guitar really pops. I also liked the new Touch Magic design. There are no buttons to get stuck (although I’ve never had a problem with this on our LeapFrog toys).
Not having buttons did mean there was a bit of a learning curve for W. Instead of just pushing buttons right away, he sat with me for a minute and let me show him what to do. Then he was off. I didn’t say it was much of a learning curve! I was thrilled he actually let me show him what to do for once! He usually has a mind of his own!
Exploring with Music
W loved that there were so many different options available on the Touch Magic Rockin’ Guitar! He quickly recognized some of his favorite songs including the Itsy Bitsy Spider and The ABC song! I loved that there were more than two songs! I haven’t gotten tired of the music yet! That is the sign of a good musical toy!
The quality of the music is fabulous as well. The songs are all upbeat and the variety means that you don’t have time to get sick of hearing the same song for the 100th time. Well, that could still happen if your child finds one they love. But at least there are options!
W loved exploring what sound each button made. J played with the guitar for quite a while too. His favorite feature was the strings. He loved that the music played faster if you strummed faster! I like the cause and effect aspect of that as well. Learning while playing gets approval from the entire family!
LeapFrog Touch Magic Makes Learning Fun
For me, the best thing about the Touch Magic Rockin’ Guitar is that W is learning and developing while he plays with it. The guitar is helping him develop his motor skills as well as his dance skills (which is an entirely different story to be shared later). The strumming action is definitely one that he will get better at while using the guitar.
I also love that the learning will continue with the guitar. As he gets older, I can see it being the center of many hours of creative play! Right now we’re also able to sing with the songs and talk about colors on the guitar. W is pretty good at finding things that are blue! I think he might have a favorite color!
