The summer has flown by and I can barely believe it when I look at the calendar. With a long weekend ahead, I wanted to plan a little get together with some of our friends in the neighborhood. But I also wanted it to be easy because no one needs to be stressed out on Labor Day weekend! So I gathered up some Labor Day Party Ideas that will keep W and I busy this week.

I wanted everything to be fairly simple because those are the only things I seem to get done these days. I blame third trimester and chasing after an almost 3-year old all day. Activities that are easy and toddler friendly are my best bets too! Oh, and Grambo had a few requests when it came to the menu.

She wanted something on the lighter side and I loved the sound of that too. While I love baking and making ice cream sundaes, sometimes a walk on the lighter side is a refreshing.

Shopping for Labor Day Menu

Planning the main dish for our get-together was a breeze because we have been enjoying Hebrew National beef franks all summer long! They have become a staple for us. And with the 97% Fat Free Beef Franks, it is so easy to give Grambo what she is looking for in the meal! They are actually my favorite!

Paired with condiments to meet the tastes of everyone, they are easy to grill up or even cook inside if the weather isn’t cooperating. (Though J and I did grill in the rain on the 4th of July this year!)

But then I needed a side dish or a dessert to go with our Hebrew National franks. Something light and refreshing to go along that was also easy to prepare!

So what side dish did I come up with? An extremely easy fruit salad that only needs four ingredients! It’s light and fresh with a hint of citrus that is just perfect for the end of summer! And did I mention it only involves four ingredients? Yes, I like that kind of recipe!

Easy Four Ingredient Fruit Salad

What you need:

  • 2 cups pineapple chunks
  • 2 cups raspberries
  • 2 cups cantaloupe, cubed
  • 1/4 cup orange juice

What you do:

  1. Add fruit to bowl and mix.
  2. Pour juice over fruit.
  3. Chill for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Mix before serving.

You can easily make as much of this fruit salad as you need for your party by adding more fruit and a bit more juice!

We did a test run of our Labor Day menu this week and it got a thumbs up from everyone in the family. J wanted to know when I was making the fruit salad again. And he usually prefers a heartier side dish. So I know this one is a winner!

Now W and I have the rest of the week to use all of the supplies we bought to make some decorations for the weekend! I plan to make some DIY Poppers, this easy patriotic felt wreath, and maybe these gorgeous tin can luminaries because they would look fabulous on our deck!

Oh and I might have bought a piñata for the party because W has been talking about them for a few weeks. I’m not sure where he saw one but he tells me at least once a day that, “I want to hit a piñata.” Plus it will be a great activity for the little ones at the party. Fill up the swimming pool, open the sandbox, and let them hit a piñata!

Sounds like a party to me!
