Holiday Pies for All with Mrs. Smith’s
When holiday season rolls around there are a lot of things that are part of our family traditions. There are things that I just must have to make a meal complete during the holidays. Creamy mashed potatoes, sandwiches made from leftover turkey, canned cranberry sauce, and pie. I must have holiday pies.
I don’t eat much pie during the year. But in the stretch from Thanksgiving through Christmas I’m all about the pie! Mrs. Smith’s Signature Deep Dish pies came to my rescue this year! I was probably a bit more excited than I should admit.
Dutch Apple Pie for Dad
I am a huge fan of pumpkin pie. I have to have pumpkin pie in November and December. It just has to be done. But J likes apple pie. The great thing about the Mrs. Smith’s pies is that we could both get what we wanted! So I was willing to make an apple pie for him this Thanksgiving.
The Signature Deep Dish Pies come in four varieties and can be found at local retailers:
- Signature Deep Dish Dutch Apple Pie with Caramel Sauce
- Signature Deep Dish Cherry Pie with Butter Fudge Sauce
- Signature Deep Dish Peach Pie with Cream Cheese Icing
- Signature Deep Dish Pumpkin Pie with Cream Cheese Icing
I was only able to find the Dutch Apple Pie and the Pumpkin Pie but that was all we needed! (Although I am on the hunt for Cherry and Peach after loving the Apple and Pumpkin!)
Customize Your Holiday Pies
These pies were a bit different than others I usually grab at the store. They each had a special ingredient. The Dutch Apple Pie came with a caramel sauce. I’ll admit that the pie looked so delicious once we had baked it and added the crumble topping that I didn’t think it needed sauce.
So we added the sauce to just part of the pie to try it out. Well… we ended up adding it to the entire pie because it was a delicious finishing touch!
My favorite part is that because the sauce was packed separately, it made it easy to customize the pie the way we like it. We could add as little or as much of the crumb topping. And we could add the caramel or not! I personally like my apple pie with some vanilla ice cream. So it made that easy to do.
And even if you opt to skip the crumble or the caramel, the apple pie filling was absolutely delicious! It wasn’t too sweet or too heavy. Those are the things that sometimes turn me off when it comes to fruit pies. But this one tasted like apple!
I’ll have to admit that I might have fallen in love with Mrs. Smith’s Signature Deep Dish Dutch Apple Pie with Caramel Sauce. But the pumpkin was delicious too! I will definitely be picking them up for Christmas and I hope to get the opportunity to try the cherry and peach soon as well!
