Halloween Safety with Stride Rite Shoes
While Halloween is all about the candy and the costumes for the little ones, as a mom I am also concerned with things like safety. We’re lucky to have a great neighborhood for trick or treating, but a mom can’t help but worry a little as the sun sets and it gets dark out.
So while W is getting excited to be a football player this year (he seems to understand Halloween… maybe), I was on the hunt for the finishing touches for his costume. We had the jersey and the pants, but the shoes he usually wears just didn’t have the right look. He wanted “running shoes” like he sees the players on television wear.
I was look for shoes that would be good for running around the neighborhood on Halloween night. Oh, and I wanted something with some style so I turned to Stride Rite. As part of their Halloween collection, Stride Rite has shoes that incorporate today’s latest light up technology so they are visible at night!
Perfect for W on Halloween night!
The Racer Lights by Stride Rite had the perfect look to put the finishing touches on W’s costume this year. They have a similar look to the shoes he sees local kids wear when they play football and they also have the athletic look that you see in collegiate and professional football.
He approved immediately and it’s been difficult to get him to take the shoes off! He has worn them during nap time a few days this week!
As a mom, I like knowing he will have a little flash when we’re out in the neighborhood this Halloween. It will help me keep my eye on him (not that I will let him get too far) and the shoes are also sturdy and give him a great fit. Plus, he plans to wear them when he runs his second one-mile race this Thanksgiving!
But there are a few other things I will be doing to make sure W is safe this Halloween as well.
Halloween Safety Tips
- Be seen. In addition to his new shoes, we will also be taking flash lights out with us for when the sun sets. Our wagon also has reflective tape on it. We will also be staying on the well-lit streets in our neighborhood.
- Stick with Daddy. W will not be going up to any doors on his own. J will be with him when they go up to the houses. Better safe than sorry! And they will only be going up to homes with lights on!
- Examine the candy. No matter how friendly the neighbors are, we don’t know them well. So J and I will be checking that everything is wrapped before W digs in to his bucket.
These are just a few things we will be doing next week when W really experiences the adventure of Halloween for the first time. We did take him out trick-or-treating last year, but I don’t think he really understood what was happening. This year he is all about the candy!
