DIY Valentines: Heart Rocks

After my sister passed away, we began finding rocks in our path. They weren’t like other rocks. They were heart-shaped. My family dubbed them heart rocks and they have been the inspiration for many things in our lives over the past year and a half. A few months ago the heart-shaped rocks inspired us to make our own heart rocks to give away and they are the perfect DIY valentines.

While I love finding rocks that are actually shaped like hearts (wouldn’t they make great valentines gifts if painted?), they seem to pop up when you least expect it. So we decided to create our own heart rocks. They are easy to make and a fun way to use Mod Podge too!

Make Your Own Heart Rocks

What you need:

  • Rocks of various sizes
  • Fabric swatches (small leftover pieces work great for this craft)
  • Mod Podge
  • sponge brush
  • scissors

What you do:

  1. Cut hearts of various sizes out of your fabric swatches.
  2. Use the Mod Podge to adhere a fabric heart to a rock.
  3. Coat rock with Mod Podge and allow to dry.

It’s as simple as that! We found it was fun to play around with different sized rocks and different sized fabric hearts depending on the shape of the rock. For Valentine’s Day, sticking with fabrics in red, white, and pink works well. But we also used other fabrics so we could have some little handmade gifts to give to our friends and family.

Everyone we’ve shared our heart rocks with has loved them! Definitely a fun idea for DIY Valentines!

Sorry about your sister. My in-laws find pennies everywhere now that my father in-law’s dad passed away. He was very thrifty and saved every penny!
Great project and I will be on the lookout for some pretty rocks to do this with today while we are at the park!
