DIY Bathroom Ideas

When we moved into our house, our powder room was in need of major help. The previous owners had taken all of the fixtures and done some touch up with a different color paint! It was lovely if you like the deconstructed look. Luckily we love making rooms our own and had some easy and affordable DIY bathroom ideas!

With my little brother visiting this summer, the bathroom definitely needed a pick up. While he’s a teenager and might not care much about what it looks like, I do. So we got to work!

If you’re working to spruce up your guest bathroom on a limited budget, I have a few suggestions for you.

Paint It!

Paint is a great way to change the entire look of a room without spending much money at all. For a room as small as our bathroom, we only needed one gallon of paint. For under $30-35 you can change the look of your bathroom and freshen it up as well!

Change It Up!

Change out fixtures like towel racks, toilet paper holders, and other hooks to give your bathroom a new look. You don’t have to spend a bundle on new fixtures either. There are some very affordable products available that can make a huge difference. We changed out our toilet paper holder with one that hooked on the side of the toilet. We also changed out the towel holder near the sink. We did both for under $20!

Add Some Art!

You can go out and purchase art, make your own, or re-purpose a piece from another room! We had a floral print that we used in our dining room many years ago. It had been sitting in the garage since then. We decided to use a robin’s egg blue with red accents so it worked perfectly in the guest bathroom. We didn’t have to spend a dime!

DIY Bathroom Ideas Change the Light Fixture

Light It Up!

Another affordable way to change the look is to change the light fixture! I am the first to admit that there are some amazing light fixtures available and that they can cost a pretty penny. But there are also some very affordable fixtures and they make a huge impact! We purchased this light fixture for under $30!

All in the Details

One of the easiest and cheapest ways to add a little pop to the guest bathroom is hand towels! I do this is in my bathrooms and in my kitchen with dish towels. I pick them up whenever I see them and I often pick them up after the holidays on clearance!

The hand towel on the left is the one we used during the winter. The one on the right is the one we used to get festive this summer. We’ll definitely leave it up through the Olympics!

There is one problem with this decorating tip. I don’t want anyone to use them! I want them to stay all clean and fresh! It doesn’t always happen though and I would be silly to expect no one to use them. Recently I have added some Kleenex Hand Towels to the guest bathroom in hopes that my decorative towels will get used a bit less!

I love that I don’t have to worry about damp towels laying around the bathroom. I need to keep some of these in the kitchen too. They would be great when we’re having people over. Plus, they look great in my guest bathroom!

Really, as long as everyone is washing their hands, I guess I should be happy!
