Mothers Day #SocialBlackout

Celebrate Mothers Day with Gift of Time

My family is very plugged in and that is just a fact. I don’t judge it because it’s the way we are. J is a big gamer and I work online so it’s just where out interests happen to fall. And yes, my toddler knows how to use an iPad on his own. He’s one of those kids. As an educator, I know there is a lot more to it than just entertaining him. He is learning and growing.

But at the same time, I also make an effort to be sure to take time and unplug. Most of our best family memories come when we take time to put down our devices and walk away from the technology. And this Mothers Day the challenge is on — the challenge to unplug and participate in the #SocialBlackout.

I’ll be honest and admit that we haven’t made any specific plans for Mother’s Day yet. But I do know that I plan to log off and spend time celebrating my family because they are the reason I am a mom!

Oh, but I do hope to do a bit of shopping with my mom!

This Sunday, MetLife is asking us all to take the time to unplug in honor of Mother’s Day. Rather than focusing on all of the great photo streams of what everyone else is doing and following their celebrations on our social networks, focus on the moms and other important people in our live offline.

I will admit that Metlife’s #SocialBlackout movement will be a challenge for me. I am addicted to checking my email first thing in the morning. Then I usually cuddle with W. The weekends are usually when I try to unplug from the blog so that shouldn’t be a problem. But I might have a little addiction to my social media accounts.

Still, W is the reason I work so hard and do so much. I deserve a little time dedicated to making more amazing memories with him!

So I am going to take the challenge and see how I do!

You can learn even more about the #SocialBlackout tomorrow by connecting with Metlife on Facebook and on Twitter @MetLife.

Will you log off for Mothers Day?
